The 3rd Euro-Africa Cooperation Forum on ICT Research was held on December 7-8 in Helsinki, Finland at the Scandic Marina Congress Centre. There were several key players from Europe and Africa who met in Helsinki at the Scandic Conference Centre to discuss, debate, and share ideas about the EC-Africa research and education networking co-operation.

Both in the sessions and in the breaks, a lot of people were able to discuss their projects and activities. The team from ICTP/WirelessU were represented by Marco Zennaro and Jane Butler who met with many European and African networking contacts. There were some good discussions around linking IPv6 training, that is currently underway and led by the EC, and  funded by the 6Deploy project and WirelessU.

One major announcement at the conference was that the EC funding for AfricaConnect was approved. The project will be led by Dante and aim to connect as many sub Saharan NRENs as possible to GEANT.
